What is Camp Cadet?
Camp Cadet is designed to bring to its youth a better understanding of law enforcement activities while living in the atmosphere of the State Police Academy. Emphasis is placed on self-discipline and the ability to make new friends while working as a team.
Camp Cadet is NOT for troubled youth -- this is a BIG misconception!! In fact, the week long experience is offered to ANY boy or girl, age 12 through 15 that is a resident or goes to school in Bedford County. The camp is provided FREE to all youth thanks to the generous support of Bedford County businesses and friends, an annual fundraiser held by the cadets, and the annual Golf outing held at Down River Golf Course.
Among the subjects to be presented at camp are the use of helicopters by the State Police and medical personnel, Wildlife Conservation Officers from the Pennsylvania Game & Fish Commission, K-9 Demonstrations, local social service agencies, and the unforgettable Obstacle Course Competition.
Bedford County youth interested in the program must submit an application. Deadline for applications will be posted at a later date. (Camp staff will be visiting local schools beginning in February 2024 to explain the program and hand out applications.) An interview will then be scheduled by Staff Members.
