Purpose:
To financially assist graduates of Camp Cadet of Bedford County that
have displayed academic performance and leadership. The scholarship
is in honor and memory of Sgt. Arthur L. Hershey, PA State Police,
who was killed in the line of duty on January 3, 1999. Sgt. Hershey
was the founder and director of Camp Cadet of Bedford County.
Criteria:
The recipients of these scholarship awards must have graduated from
the Camp Cadet of Bedford County Program. The award will be given
to the recipient in their final/senior year of higher education. The
scholarships that will be awarded will consist of a direct payment
to the learning institution. There will be two separate classes of
scholarships. The first class will consist of a one thousand dollar
award to a male and female recipient enrolled in an accredited secondary
criminal justice program. The second class will consist of a five
hundred dollar award to a male and female recipient enrolled in any
other accredited higher education program. Those applying for the
scholarships must submit the following information:
1. The year that they graduated from the camp Cadet of Bedford County
Program.
2. A resume that lists their educational background, to include their
current GPA, a list of educational and social
memberships, their current home address and
phone number, the names, addresses and phone numbers of their
parents, and the name, address and phone number of the registrar's
office of the higher education institution
that they are attending.
3. The applicant for the scholarship must also submit an approximately
five hundred word essay. The essay will be
on their experiences in the Camp Cadet of
Bedford County Program and how it affected their lives. Selection
Committee: The selection committee will consist
of members of the Camp Cadet of Bedford County
Board of Directors.
Renewal:
This is a one time award to the recipient and cannot be renewed.
Application Period:
The applicant for these scholarships may submit their application
upon starting their final/senior year of education. The Camp Cadet
of Bedford County Board of Directors must receive the completed Application
by July 1st of the year that they are applying for the scholarship.

Funding Source:
The funding for this scholarship is through private donations and
a separate fundraiser that has no effect on the funding for the annual
